Faro Cathedral
Photo: Câmara Municipal de Faro (cm-faro.pt)
Built in Gothic style on the site of a former Roman temple and later a mosque. Plundered and burned in 1596 by English privateers led by the Earl of Essex, it now houses what is considered the finest 17th-century carved altarpiece in the Algarve and a Baroque organ decorated with oriental motifs.
